Mountain biking Chile – Andes Secret Spot

Mountain Biking – Andes Secret Spot.

Great Trip Los Andes Secret Spot.

The journey starts at the mountain foot of our Cordillera, on the eastern part of Santiago. It starts with an hour ascension through trails, forests and beautiful sights. We will be passing by different hills until we get to some very fun downhill trails. In the middle of the trip we will reach our Secret Spot on top of the mountain. A magical place where we will enjoy the immensity of the mountain and a spectacular view of the city. Also, with a little bit of luck we may be able to see condors or foxes. After a nice rest, being recovered we will start our long descend to get to the the river of Santuario de la Naturaleza.

Everyday of the year except rainy days.
Degree of difficulty: High average /4-6 hours.

I'm looking forward to riding with Jean Claude again as he made this a great experience! I recently rode the Andes Secret Spot trip with him. We started the day early in order to beat the heat and catch the sun coming over the mountain tops. After filling out a form, topping up my pack with snacks, t-shirt, drinks, and hopping on the bike, a Giant Reign which was in great condition. We departed from his place with a short climb through residential streets to the beginning of our true ascent, which was over 1,000 m of climbing, on the trails. So bring your climbing legs as the first half is basically all up. There are short sections of technical climbing, but mainly its easy going. Our conversation was never lacking on the way up. He would point out various things as we traversed the ride. While the downhill was more technical with some faster running sections in between. It was dry, loose, filled with rocks, roots, and the occasional deep rut and the traversing sections were often off camber. I found out that most of the tracks were old animal trails. We talked about how in New Zealand a lot of the trails I ride are made specific for riding and that some of the natural features may be removed to make the trails accessible to all. Not so much here. I'd say you need a high level of fitness and bike handling skills in order to ride this. We finished the ride back at his place with a glass of homemade Mote con Huesillo followed by a drop off.
